The Samsung EHS TDM Plus AE120MXTPEH/EU outdoor unit is a 12 kW split heat pump designed for HVAC systems that combine air-to-water (A2W) and air-to-air (A2A) technology. Thanks to Samsung’s TDM Plus system, a single outdoor unit can work with a hydronic module for heating, cooling and domestic hot water production while also supplying compatible direct expansion indoor units.
This model offers a nominal output of 12 kW in both heating and cooling, single-phase power supply and R410A refrigerant. Its ability to operate in air-to-water heating with outdoor temperatures down to -25 °C makes it suitable for residential and commercial installations that require year-round climate control.
The main feature of the EHS TDM Plus system is the ability to combine air-to-water and air-to-air climate control using a single outdoor unit. The system can transfer energy to the hydronic circuit through a compatible Hydro Kit and also supply compatible direct expansion indoor units with TDM Plus.
This architecture makes it possible to combine different climate control solutions within the same project. For example, a home can use underfloor heating for heating while simultaneously relying on air indoor units for a faster thermal response in certain rooms.
The control system allows priorities and operating modes to be set to adapt the heat pump to the installation’s needs.
The AE120MXTPEH/EU provides a nominal heating capacity of 12 kW. Under Samsung’s specified nominal conditions, it delivers a COP of 4.41, with a nominal electrical input of 2.72 kW.
The COP represents the ratio between the thermal energy supplied and the electrical energy consumed under specific test conditions. The actual performance of the installation will depend on factors such as outdoor temperature, supply water temperature, building demand and the type of emitter installed.
In addition to heating, this outdoor unit provides a nominal cooling capacity of 12 kW. Samsung specifies a nominal EER of 4.14 and a nominal electrical input of 2.90 kW under the corresponding test conditions.
Cooling can be carried out through the air-to-water circuit with compatible emitters, such as fan coils or properly designed chilled floor systems, or through compatible air-to-air indoor units within the TDM Plus system.
TDM Plus technology makes it possible to take advantage of the characteristics of two different climate control systems. The hydronic circuit can provide stable comfort through underfloor heating or other water-based emitters, while the air-to-air indoor units can offer a faster response when a room temperature needs to be changed quickly.
This combination makes it possible to design flexible systems that adapt their operation to different comfort needs throughout the day.
Samsung specifies a wide outdoor operating range for the AE120MXTPEH/EU. In air-to-water heating mode, it can operate with outdoor temperatures between -25 and 35 °C.
For domestic hot water production through a properly configured system with a Hydro Kit and compatible storage tank, the indicated outdoor range also reaches -25 °C.
The operating ranges specified by Samsung depend on the selected mode:
These values refer to outdoor temperature and must be considered together with the operating limits of the hydronic module, indoor units and the rest of the installed components.
The Samsung AE120MXTPEH/EU uses a split architecture. The refrigerant circuit connects the outdoor unit to a compatible indoor hydronic module, where heat is transferred to the installation’s water circuit.
This configuration keeps the main hydronic circuit inside the building and provides flexibility when designing the technical room and selecting the DHW tank according to the project’s needs.
The outdoor unit alone does not constitute a complete aerothermal system. It must be combined with the Hydro Kit, control system and other compatible components specified by Samsung.
For an air-to-water installation, the AE120MXTPEH/EU can be combined with the Samsung AE160BNYDEH/EU Hydro Kit in compatible single-phase installations. This hydronic module allows the heating and cooling circuits to be supplied and manages DHW production through an external storage tank.
The selection of the hydronic module, tank, pumps, safety devices and the rest of the accessories must be made according to the building’s needs and the planned hydraulic scheme.
The EHS TDM Plus system can be used to produce domestic hot water when the outdoor unit is combined with a hydronic module, a compatible storage tank and the corresponding control components.
The tank volume can be selected according to the number of users and expected consumption, allowing the installation to be adapted to homes and projects with different DHW needs.
The AE120MXTPEH/EU uses R410A refrigerant. Samsung specifies a factory charge of 3.5 kg and a global warming potential (GWP) of 2,088.
The factory charge is equivalent to approximately 7.31 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. As this is equipment using fluorinated gases, installation, refrigerant circuit handling, maintenance and commissioning must be carried out by qualified professionals in accordance with applicable regulations.
The refrigerant connections specified for this outdoor unit are:
The sizing and routing of the refrigerant installation must comply with the maximum lengths, height differences, additional refrigerant charge and other conditions indicated in Samsung’s installation manual.
The AE120MXTPEH/EU reference corresponds to the single-phase version of 12 kW. Its power supply is 220-240 V at 50 Hz.
Samsung also markets the AE120MXTPGH/EU reference for three-phase installations, so it is important to check the available electrical supply and select the appropriate version.
Under nominal conditions, Samsung specifies an operating current of 13.2 A in cooling and 12.4 A in heating.
Conductor sizing and electrical protection must be determined according to the installation documentation, line length, mounting conditions and current electrical regulations.
The outdoor unit includes a propeller fan with a nominal air flow of 103 m³/min. Air movement through the outdoor heat exchanger enables the energy exchange required for heat pump operation.
During installation, the minimum clearances specified by Samsung must be respected to allow proper air intake and discharge and to avoid recirculation that could reduce system performance.
Samsung specifies a sound pressure of 51 dB(A) in cooling and 52 dB(A) in heating. The declared sound power level is 70 dB(A).
The acoustic level perceived in the final installation depends on distance, unit location, nearby surfaces and possible sound reflections. For this reason, the outdoor unit location must be carefully selected and applicable acoustic regulations must be respected.
The AE120MXTPEH/EU uses an outdoor chassis designed to deliver the required output in high-capacity TDM Plus systems.
Thanks to the combination of air-to-water and air-to-air climate control, this outdoor unit can be used in different types of installations:
The Samsung AE120MXTPEH/EU delivers 12 kW nominal heating and cooling within a flexible system capable of combining hydronic and direct expansion climate control. This technology makes it possible to use a single outdoor unit to cover different thermal needs of the building when combined with the appropriate TDM Plus indoor modules and accessories.
Its nominal COP of 4.41, heating operation with outdoor temperatures down to -25 °C and the ability to work with underfloor heating, fan coils, air indoor units and DHW production make this unit a versatile solution for integrated climate control projects.
The outdoor unit must be combined with the Hydro Kit, controls, DHW tank and other compatible components required by the project. Sizing, refrigerant and hydronic installation, and commissioning must be carried out by qualified professionals following Samsung’s technical documentation and current regulations.
